Project Partners and Collaborators

The project team is pleased to be working with our project partners on a wide-ranging programme of activities aimed at a number of different beneficiaries, including the heritage sector, teachers and students, relevant personnel in government and the civil service, policymakers and constitutional experts, the general public and local communities.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK

A policy-briefing workshop, hosted at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will present the survey data and oral history findings to an audience of British diplomats, relevant personnel in government and the civil service, policy-makers, protocol officers, Palace officials, constitutional experts and media royal correspondents. The discussions will seek to intervene in current debates about the future and the survival of monarchy in the Caribbean region.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

University Museum, Mona, Jamaica

A public exhibition, ‘The Queen in the Caribbean and her Legacy’, curated by University Museum, Mona, Jamaica, will engage the public with the history of the Queen’s reign in Jamaica, and in the region.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Museumand: The National Caribbean Heritage Museum, UK

A memory day hosted by the National Caribbean Heritage Museum (museumand.org) will engage Caribbean diaspora communities in the UK with the significance, or not, of the British monarchy in the region, and will reflect on cultural identity and the relationship between the Caribbean and the UK.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The Historical Association, UK

A two-day teacher-training residential, hosted at the University of Southampton, will be held in partnership with the Historical Association and their Teachers Fellowship Scheme. This residential will be spent disseminating research on the role of Elizabeth II in the Caribbean to a team of history teachers who will then produce new learning resources for Key Stages 2 and 3 topics on monarchy, empire and decolonisation. The aim is to contribute to the development of a more diverse curriculum, benefiting primary and secondary school pupils and changing the ways in which they engage with the history of the empire and the ongoing processes and challenges of decolonisation.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Historic Royal Palaces, UK

We will hold a series of training workshops for volunteer tour guides, organised through Historic Royal Palace’s Community Access Scheme. The scheme aims to widen access to the palaces, and our workshops will share new perspectives on the history of the British monarchy in the Caribbean, and their continued role as head of state in eight Caibbean countries. The aim is that the guides incorporate these new perspectives into their tours, benefitting visitors to the palaces.
